Baraga County, MI – The Baraga County Economic Development Corporation (BCEDC) has announced Superior National Bank as the 2024 recipient of the inaugural Project of the Year Award. This honor recognizes Superior National Bank’s significant investment in the community by constructing its new bank branch at 1 E Broad Street in L’Anse, Michigan.
The Project of the Year Award will be presented at the BCEDC’s Community Update event taking place on January 15 from 5-7 p.m. at the Baraga Lakeside Inn. The award celebrates public and private economic development projects that have significantly contributed to Baraga County’s growth and vitality. Nominees are selected by the BCEDC Board of Directors based on their impact, investment, and timeline.
“We want to congratulate Superior National Bank on being the recipient of the Project of the Year award for 2024,” said BCEDC Board Chair Mark Massicotte. “This award celebrates the impactful projects driving economic growth and enhancing life in Baraga County. The investment and commitment in the community is an indicator of the positive actions driving the community forward. As the business community expands so do the opportunities for those calling our community home. We’re excited to honor these efforts annually at our Community Update event.”
Superior National Bank’s L’Anse branch project involved the complete design and construction of a new banking facility, replacing the original structure that had served the community for nearly 100 years. The new facility was designed with the consideration of modern banking needs, improved energy efficiency, and a more functional layout for staff and customers.
In addition, the project included site beautification, the replacement of sidewalks, and plans for the installation of a time and temperature sign to be placed at the corner of Broad and Main. Construction began on October 30, 2023, and was completed on May 18, 2024.
Designed by U.P. Engineers and Architects and constructed by MJO Construction, the $2.3 million project represents Superior National Bank’s significant commitment to Baraga County’s future.
“Superior National Bank is tremendously grateful to the people, businesses, and government entities in Baraga County that trust us as their bank of choice,” said Brian Donnely, Senior Vice President Retail/Deposit Banking. “We are thrilled to reward your continued loyalty with this beautiful new banking facility.”
