Project of the Year: KBIC’s L’Anse Housing Project
This year’s Project of the Year Award was presented to the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community’s L’Anse Housing Project.
KBIC is developing full infrastructure on more than 31 acres in L’Anse Township, within the boundaries of the L’Anse Indian Reservation, to support 20 new residential lots for Tribal member housing. This important project will make the sites shovel ready for future affordable housing development and help address local housing needs.
The $3.1 million project, made possible through collaboration with numerous partner organizations, will deliver meaningful community benefits, including 20 fully serviced residential lots, a community recreation area for youth and families, improved access to utilities and broadband, lower housing costs, and increased housing availability for Tribal members. The project also strengthens long-term sustainability through integration with municipal systems and enhances local infrastructure in ways that support livability and economic growth.
