Baraga County is a dynamic group of people dedicated to providing superior quality services with integrity, respect and accountability. We are proud of the spirit of adventure and opportunity that has guided our area’s growth. This vibrant community has raised the quality of life for the more than 8,000 people who have made the Keweenaw Bay and Beyond area their home.
Baraga County has a rich and colorful history, full of mining conquests, logging adventures and the twisting tails of the railroad industry. Founded in 1875 the County was named after Bishop Frederic Baraga, consecrated as the Upper Peninsula’s first Bishop on November 1, 1853.
