The Western Upper Peninsula Planning and Development Region
(WUPPDR), on behalf of the L’Anse Area Community Development Corporation (LACDC),
is soliciting proposals from qualified architectural and engineering firms to perform
design and build services for the Winkler Building at 833 Sicotte St., L’Anse. This project
will produce a single, stamped architectural design suitable for final engineering and
redevelopment of the Winkler Building into residential apartments, including options for
mixed-income housing. This proposal is the next step in the long process of planning and preparing to create
apartments within the former nursing home. “Every Michigander deserves an affordable, quality place to call home,”
said Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer. The LACDC is striving forward to support and assist with that need.
ABOUT THE ORGANIZATIONS INVOLVED:
WUPPDR, the client for this project, is a regional planning and economic development agency serving jurisdictions throughout Baraga, Gogebic, Houghton, Iron, Keweenaw, and Ontonagon counties in the Western U.P. WUPPDR’s mission is to foster stable and diversified economies in the region. WUPPDR develops and implements a wide variety of projects and programs for regional benefit, including several related to housing, and provides technical services and a convening role to local units of government and partner organizations.
